FMP
Today we finished specialist unit, I presented my evalutation to the class which I felt went well, we then started going through the brief for FMP which I was very nervous about as I did not yet have an idea of what I wanted to do, I spoke to my tutor who said as I want to go into events management I should make a promo video. I then started to make a mindmap of ideas discussing what roles I have enjoyed and have not enjoyed throughout my college time. I am excited for this unit as i have found something I really want to do

Events management and media
Throughout my time on this course I have always enjoyed the theory side of things more so the practical and have not exactly kept that quiet, I always tried my best to get involved with production however it just never excited me as much as what researching did. I also was never really 100% sure on if university was for me or not however when researching into what really interested me I realised I loved organisation and planning memories which will last a lifetime, therefore decided international events management was what I wanted to do. I then started to wonder how I would be able to link my studies with what I wanted to study in higher education I thought that when organising events I will have to advertise them in a exciting way and therefore thought about making an advert or even a poster with a QR code for an event. I then decided to do more research into what else I could produce as I did not want to go with just my first idea. I then looked at what I will be studying at the university that I am hoping to study at to see if there was anything I could do for my FMP that would prepare me for university. I noticed that I could create a promo video for an event, I really liked this idea as I feel that it combines media production and events management in the best way. I like the idea of showing off what I have learnt over the past couple of years in terms of production skills and anything I may be going into in the future. Making the mind map really helped me as I now know what I want to make and how it can link into both media and events.

Today was the first day back at college from February half term over the half term holidays I completed and worked on my project proposal, I knew that the proposal would need some work doing to it however I wanted to go through it with my tutor so I was clear exactly what I needed to do. I started to look into other promo videos so that I can understand exactly what I want mine to look like. After going through my proposal I then started to add in the changes and what I need to improve on. Tomorrow I am going to show my tutor another draft to make sure its a good standard.
As I have decided that I want to make a promotional video I want to look into the codes and conventions of promotional video so that I know what to look for when analysing promotional videos.
When looking into the codes and conventions of promotional video I have found that I need to look for
Information of the product/brand
Specific colours that will link to the brand/product
Codes and conventions
Corporate promotional videos are usually marketing and sales tools that are created to make people aware of a company and what they could do for potential consumers.When creating a promotional video it should have a clear messge. Promotional videos usually have a set target audience so appropriate imagery text and audio would be used. Say for example a promotional video for pepsi would be completely different to a video promoting a school to parents . A promotional video is suppose to be precise and very direct so it should range from about 5-15 minutes. The more precise the video is the longer you will keep the audiences attention
Club Batchwood promo video
I want to be able to view a professional version of what I want to make and by watching this video I have found that I need to include an upbeat background music to make the video seem attractive. I also need to use stock footage so the viewer can feel like they are really experiencing the event. From watching this video I have found that the theme of the video seems to be VIP to make it seem as if every guest is a VIP for example champayne bottles with sparklers which makes the venue seem up market and unique. In the video you can hear upbeat music which will attract the younger audience as it is very loud and current. When the music drops you are able to see the excitement in all the guests faces which is what I want to portray in my video.
Pryzm promo video
In this video which is promoting an event at a night club in Watford from watching this video I can see that the creators have used bright colours an upbeat music which is what I am looking to create in my video. This promo video also seems to be sponsored by "smirnoff" vodka which is a good sponser as the viewers will probably already be a fan of this brand. The music in the background of this video makes it exciting and would make the viewer want to go to the event as it would be what they are expecting to hear at the event. Watching this video has helped me as I know that when making my own video I will need to include upbeat music and colourful bright colours to excite the audience.
As previously stated I am planning to make a promo video for a local nightclub in luton however I really wanted to be able to get their permission before I started to make any final plans I was hoping to be able to contact them in a more professional way and I did try to ring them a couple of times however they are not open in the day time and are usually very busy at night. Because the business does not have a website the best way to be able to contact them would be through social media, I am very happy with the reaction that I have received from the business and feel that I acted very professionally with the client. As I have been able to get through to the client easier through this method of interaction this is how I will be contacting them from now on.

Today I decided to focus on my project proposal and start including and changing what I went over with my tutor, I then went over with her what I want to research for both primary and secondary research. I found that this helped me a lot as I was not too sure what I wanted to research and how I should conduct my research. Unfortunately I will not be able to complete any work at home tonight and therefore will have to make sure I do a lot in my lessons tomorrow.

How to make a good promo
I wanted to watch something like this as even though I have been watching promo videos I wanted to research into if there was any cinematic techniques that I could be using at all. I found this video very interesting as it spoke about how to attract people in to your product or business. I now want to start looking at promo videos overall for be to be able to understand the difference. I have found that this video has really helped me as I understand now that I need to use certain cinematic techniques to be able to achieve this I will be having a 1-1 with the technician in college so that I feel more confident with what I am doing.

Today I did a mixture of primary research and secondary research I managed to message and speak with my client which means I am defiantly able to create the product which I am very happy about. Moving forward I then started to look at articles and videos which tell me how to create the perfect promo video and what a promo should include. These sources have really helped me as I now have an even clearer idea of what I want my final product to look like. I then moved on to finishing off my project proposal as the deadline is tomorrow and I know that I will not be able to complete any work at home tonight.

Today I sat with my tutor and went through my research page to see what I need to improve on and change and how I can improve on my proposal. my tutor said I just needed to add a little bit more detail in to what the video will look like. I then asked her to go through my research page with me to see how I can improve it what I needed to do was make sure everything flows so therefore I had to re arange some things to ensure this can happen. Over the weekend I am going to try and do some more research to add to my portfolio.
Market research
Flame does not have a website and can be accessed only through social media, however their social media following is very big and it is is how they advertise all their upcoming events. For example I can clearly see that every Sunday night is karoke night, when flame has upcoming events which are not weekly events they will advertise for a little longer for example when flame was advertising for their new years eve events they uploaded posters showing off what was available for the the night such as tickets and their unique wristbands. Flame is a very well known club in luton and is especially known for their exclusive "ritzbands" which means you pay £26 and are given unlimited drinks all night this unique offer is advertised on every event poster that flame uploads which tells me it is defiantly something I need to include in my promo video. This form of research has really helped me as I have a clearer idea of how flame advertise and what I should include to keep within their brand standards.
Club batchwood which is a club outside of luton in St.Albans this club does have a website however it is a lot larger in size and can hold a lot more people. Batchwood have regular events which sometimes include celebrity DJs this does give an advantage over flame as it is a bigger club and better known. The batchwood website does include a section in which you can see photographs of the building and a section where you can buy tickets for their upcoming events. However batchwood does not have "ritzbands" like flame does and is slightly more expensive to get into this gives flame an advantage over batchwood.
Pink Punters is the a club which is again outside of Luton in Milton Keynes, this club is again a LGBT club which is the same as flame so therefore brings in it's own community however also welcomes everybody. Pinks is again a little bit bigger and more well known then flame is and therefore does have a little bit of a bigger following. The only difference in pinks is that they do not promote any of their events however only have opening times for Thursday-Sunday I have not yet sen a promotional video for this club which tells me they do not have one. Their brand colours are the LGBT and their website is in keeping with this. From looking at the website of this club I have learnt that what I could include in my promo video could be clear shots of the guests at the club so that it is recognisable to the regular guests.

Today I went through my initial research which built up to me being able to write my proposal with my tutor, I then disscussed with her what it is that I can do next for my primary and secondary research and how I improve. I have again contacted the night club so that we can arrange a date to meet and disscuss my plans for the video I hope to hear back from them soon.
I noticed in all the promotional videos that I watched that they have graphic text going across the video advertising events, opening times etc. I have decided to start looking at tutorials on how to create these graphics and what they are actually called, as if I want my video to be industry standard then I will need to include these and in a professional way.
When watching this video I am starting to understand how to create "Lower third banners" just because I want to get some more practice with a professional just so I can get used to how to create them and maybe use different fonts and styles. For my FMP the thing that I want the most help with is the editing as I want to be able to make it look as professional as possible.
This video does not have any voice over explaining what they are doing which is usually what I prefer as I find that I am able to follow the tutorial a little easier. However unlike the video above this video showed me how to design and make the "lower third banners" more creative which is what my banners to look like.

Today I went back to my initial research to add to it and rearrange certain findings so that the story of my project flows and makes sense I then noticed that when watching the promo videos again that I did not know much about lower third banners and how they should be created properly I the started to watch youtube tutorials on how they are made and how I can make them creatively. I then thought of trying it out myself to see what I had learnt and thought the best way to be able to do this would be through asking the technician at college to give me a 1 2 1 on how to create them. Therefore I have booked in tomorrow to learn how to create the lower third banners.

Today I was absent from college as I had been very ill I worked at home to create a survey for my primary research this will be uploaded at the end of my research so that I have enough time to get as many answers and analysis the answers. I hope to be back to college tomorrow and am going to write out some questions that I want to ask the management at flame.
I am going to meet with flame on Saturday in the day I thought it would be best to write out some questions to ask the management at flame. I have spilt all the questions in to two sections. One section is about flame and how it is branded and the other section is about how flame would like the video to look and what they expect to see from the video.

Today I spent the day writing out my questions for flame, at first I thought I had an idea of what I wanted to ask them however I needed to add more detail. After speaking to my tutor what she recommended doing was spliting the questions in to two sections asking about the history of flame and another section about how flame would like the video to look. I am going to go over my questions one time more before I meet with the management.
What is your age?

II decided to create a survey to understand what people think of promotional videos and to see how much they understand. The first question I wanted to ask was the age of the people taking my survey. I asked this question because with the promotional video being for a nightclub I would expect most of m answers to come from the age category of 18-30 as these are the people that go out the most. However most of my responses did come from 17-23 year olds. However this could have been because of the platform that I posted my survey as most people on the platform I used will be around this age.
What is your gender?

I asked the question what is your gender? As I was interested to see if it was more male or female that preferred the nightlife. I was surprised to see that I got exactly half of males and females answering my survey.
Do you know much about promotional video?

I wanted to ask if my audience if they knew anything about promotional video, from some of my answers I have noticed that not many people know a lot about promotional video I especially screenshoted these answers as I found it interesting that not many people know much about promotional video. The other answers did not know much about promotional video either however I was very interested in the comment "they are used to promote companies through a video format, a fancy way of saying advert" I think it will be interesting to create another survey once the final product has been completed to see if peoples opinions change on promotional video.
Where do you often see promotional video?

I wanted to ask this question as I was not too sure where I should be uploading my promotional video from seeing these answers and from taking my research into consideration I think the best place to upload my video would be on social media as this is where most promotional videos seem to be.
What would you expect to see from a promotional video?

Even though I had already asked if my audience knew what a promo video was I wanted to see what they would expect from a promo video. I was happy with these answers as it was what I was hoping to create for my video. The one answer I was confused over is "discounts" I do not believe that this is a good idea and would rather advertise the promotions that flame have.

Through completing all this research I have learnt a lot about a topic of which I did not have much knowledge on I have really enjoyed the research section in this unit and feel that I am even more prepared for university now then I was before. Tomorrow I am going to visit the management at flame to confirm my idea with them I am going to talk them through my idea and show them my research page and some of the inspirations that I have had.

Today I went to visit the management at flame to speak with them about my idea and what it involves. They seemed very happy with the idea and wanted to confirm it with the owner before they could give me a final answer however stated that it will more than likely be okay for me to go ahead I would just have to show them everything I film to make sure it is in keeping with their brand ambitions. I am now going to carry on with planning for my pitch which is tomorrow. I have also started looking at planning my contingency plan to see what that involves.
