FMP Pre-Production

Pitch Video
Pitch evaluation/ Diary 25/04/2018

Today me and the other team member Chris presented our pitch to a panel of four different people, I feel that the pitch went quite well which you can see in the video above. During the pitch both my team member and I spoke about what our idea is and how we want to make the documentary. We included target audience, a contingency plan and much more, we spoke about our inspirations and how they have helped us inform our idea. When the pitch was over we asked the panel if they had any questions, the first thing they touched on was that we should change our secondary audience to being people of our generation and to move the original secondary audience to being our tertiary audience. After having this explained to us we realised that this would actually be a better idea. We were then told that we should have a clearer idea of what we are trying to achieve in terms of filming with the charities as the pitch made it seem as if we could be going down more of an uncovering route which is not what we wanted to do. Another question that we received was about how charities make money from fundraising events and how we plan to talk about this in the documentary, we explained that two of the charities have agreed for us to film at their fundraising events. Other than this I feel that the pitch went very well and that I have managed to gain lots of knowledge from today's pitch.

Diary entry 26/04/2018

Today my team member and I went to visit Keech hospice care, we met with the PR manager Kathryn Fisk and told her of our idea and why we want to create the documentary. We were told that we would be able to speak with a volunteer from one of the charity shops, a nurse who works at the hospice and a family who may have received help from Keech in the past. We spoke with Kathryn about the types of questions we are wanting to ask and exactly what we are looking to achieve by making this documentary and how it may benefit them too. From the interview we seemed to have gained a lot of information about Keech, we confirmed all filming dates with Kathryn and everything seemed to be okay. We are now in Pre-Production.

FMP Pre-Production Paperwork (Content Manager)
Script first draft
Diary entry 30/04/2018

Today in class we started Pre-Production paperwork, between my team member and myself we shared out the different tasks which would be more suited to our roles. However we did decide that it would be easier to create and write the script together as it required both technical input from the director and creative outlook from the content manager. We knew that this was a very important piece of paperwork and so we spent a lot of time on the first draft and distributed it to two tutors and one class mate to analyse our script and give us feedback, tomorrow we will write the final draft and distribute again to make sure it is perfect. The feedback we have received so far has mainly been all the same whereby most people are saying we should make it less forced and allow adlib. This feedback will help both myself and my team member for tomorrow when we continue on with our other paperwork. I feel that so far it is going well and that we are making good progress we have allocated two weeks for Pre-Production paperwork which I think is just enough time.

My Roles

Location Reccee

Talent release and location release

Budget and equipment booking form

Risk assessment

Sound Plan (joint)

Script (Plus meetings with director)

Budget Breakdown
Script Feedback

I completed the budget breakdown, for some equipment when working it out the cost I found out that it would actually be cheaper to rent for 14 days instead of paying £27.00 a day. I decided to look at different sources for all the equipment as then I am able to get multiple sources. However as we have access to all of this equipment here at college for free use we will not be needing to hire from anywhere. I wanted to look at how much it would cost to rent/hire as this is what we would have to do at industry level.

Today I carried on with my pre production paperwork, we finished the final draft of the script and then went for a test run to make sure that everything made sense. We then carried on with our other responsibilities  which meant for the director writing the proposal and for me writing out my interview questions and customising them for each charity or person that I speak to in the charities. I feel that so far pre production is going well and that I am schedule for what I need to do, tomorrow I am going to carry on writing the questions and then move on to location release forms.

Script run through
Script run through - Unknown Artist
00:00 / 00:00

This is a script run through that I recorded just to make sure that everything made sense and that nothing sounded poorly written. Overall I feel that it sounds quite good considering it is only a skeleton and that when I am in the moment I might end up saying something else that was not included in the script.

Tokko

(More comfortable questions)

How are you doing today?

Tell me about how what Tokko is and how it has grown

So how do you draw people into coming to Tokko?

2/05/2018

Today I finished off the questions for the different charities, my tutor then said that to make it look more professional I should structure the questions in a different way. When I get home I am going to take on this feedback to then send to my tutor so that she can review the questions with me. After that I started to work on the location release forms in order to send them off to the different charities however in order to to this we need to attcach the risk assessments I am going to complete this tonight and get them sent off by tomorrow in order for this to work.

Today I carried on with my Pre-Production paperwork, I finished my final interview questions and my location release forms, I had help with the interview questions to ensure that they were perfect and were to the point of what the documentary is about. They did take a while to complete however I am happy that I am finished with them and that they are done. Tomorrow I am going to complete the Level Trust and Tokko location release forms, some paperwork is unable to be filled out as we they have to be filled out by our clients however once they are done we will be able to upload them.

Final Script
8/05/2018

Today I carried on with my Pre-Production paperwork and I completed all the risk assessments which I attached to the location release forms which are now ready to be signed by all the different charities. I also completed the final script with only a few changes. I also had a 1-1 with my tutor to go over what still needs to be done and how I can improve, from this meeting I know that tomorrow I need to work on my interviewing skills and my questions to add those hard hitting questions. To be able to do this I am going to interview someone that I do not know as well as to get myself used to talking to people I do not know. I will then analyse the videos to see how I need to improve.

Piers Morgan life stories

9/05/2018

I decided to watch a short clip from Piers Morgan life stories, which I feel includes some hard hitting questions which clearly made the interviewee uncomfortable. Piers asks the interviewee Alesha who is a judge on Britains got talent about her childhood and the abuse that she often witnessed at home. When watching the interview you are able to tell that Alesha feels uncomfortable with answering this specific question as it was clearly a bad time in her life, however being the experienced interviewer that Piers is he still continues to ask those hard hitting questions. A moment during this interview that really stands out to me is when Piers asks Alesha about a time in her life in which she struggles to answer this is when Piers Morgan answers his own question. Even the way in which Piers hold himself in terms of body language he is always calm and makes the interviewee feel welcome and comfortable. This is seen in the way that he does not fidget or distract himself with anything. Piers also looks down at his que cards from time to time however he always keeps eye contact with the interviewee which is again important as it makes the interviewee feel comfortable. To be able to be this kind of interviewer I need to practice this with some hard hitting questions that may make people feel uncomfortable however should still be asked.

After researching Piers Morgan life stories I wanted to conduct my own mock interview to compare and contrast on how I conduct myself when asking questions. Personally from watching the interview I would say that I did quite well one of the things I would give myself advice on though is making sure I know the questions and know how to build off answers. I would also tell myself that I need to calm myself and relax more to avoid playing or fiddling with my necklace. I also need to work on my questions especially my confidence building questions and my wind up questions as this will not make the interview look like it went vey quickly. By completing this interview it has really helped me with how I should conduct myself with different people and the different questions I should ask. I am very excited to start filming on Monday.

Today I again carried on with my Pre-Production work, I worked on comparing and contrasting interviews with myself and Piers Morgan. I watched quite a few piers Morgan interviews to analyse how he conducts himself around different people and in different situations. I then went to practice this and interviewed someone from the second year asking her about charity and what it means to her. I then analysed the interview and compared myself to the life stories clip I had from doing this it has really helped me to gain confidence and knowledge for filming. I also had a progress review with my tutor Natalie we also decided that I will not be completing location reccee for any of the locations that we will be filming in as it could change depending on the lighting of the room or if a certain room is going to be used when we need it. Tomorrow I am going to spend some time with the Director of the project to complete the sound plan together.

Sound list

This is the sound list that the Director and myself completed, the songs we have chosen are all audio only as this way there will be no copyright issues. All the songs have been carefully selected, we feel that we have a wide selections of upbeat and sadder songs this means that we will have a song for every situation.

10/05/2018

In todays lesson I finished off the sound list which you can see above, which means that aside from the risk assessments and location releases which will be signed, scanned and uploaded on each day of production I have finished all of my Pre-Production paperwork which also means I will be able to start filming on Monday. I am very excited about this as I cant wait to find out different information about every charity and to find out what charity means to them?

This is a message from the youtube account of which we have found our songs. This means that if we use their music in our documentary we will have to put a link to the account in our ending credits for us this is no issue as it means that we are free to use the songs we wanted most with no issues.
